Empress Dowager Cixi

《Xichun Works on a Painting》is now on exhibition at the Ming and Qing Dynasties Section of Dynastic Art Gallery of the Palace Museum. This set of works was created in the 1880s in the royal palace under the order of Empress Dowager Cixi.

The work of painted sculpture by Zhang Mingshan is unique. He did not simply create a portrait sculpture of the emperor. Instead, the work itself shines forth alone among the imperial art. This fully shows that, at a time when treligious painted sculpture art suffered a disastrous decline and for survival, the painted sculpture of Zhang Mingshan would rise up majestically and develop into a folk art with far-reaching influences in Tianjin.

Li Hongzhang

In the late Qing Dynasty, the envoy of Russia invited Zhang Mingshan to Beijing at a huge cost to make a portrait sculpture for Li Hongzhang.

Jiang Weiguo

In the 1990s, a friend gave Jiang Weiguo a clay figure created by Zhang Naiying as a gift. He took picture with it and sent it back home for commemoration.

Shao Yifu

At his birthday, Shao Yifu received two clay figures created by Mr.Zhang Yu. He liked his gift immensely.

Mei Baojiu

In the Mid-autumn Festival in 2013, Mei Baojiu, a famous performing artist of Beijing Opera, collected one of Zhang Yu’s works of art—Happiness and Longevity Forever.

Angela Dorothea Merkel

Mrs.Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, visited Clay Figure Zhang’s Art Gallery on August 31st, 2012. She was amazed by the exhibitions. And she collected one of Zhang Yu’s works of art—Confucius.

On August 10th 2013, the French Breitling Jet Team collected the limited works of art—Dharma.
